House Agriculture ranking member David Scott has decided to withdraw from the race to retain his position next year, according to four anonymous sources familiar with the matter.

Scott (D-Ga.) faced a significant setback on Monday when he lost a critical Steering panel vote during the first ballot. His tenure as ranking member has often been under scrutiny due to ongoing health concerns that raised questions about his ability to lead the committee effectively.

Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) appears poised to take over as the top Democrat on the committee after securing 34 votes from the Steering panel. Rep. Jim Costa (D-Calif.), who also vied for the role, received 22 votes, placing him second. Meanwhile, Scott garnered only five votes.
