The Brief
Scott Turner, Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is set to answer questions from lawmakers.

Turner, a former NFL player, previously served as the director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump’s first term and represented parts of Collin and Rockwall County in the Texas House.

Scott Turner Hearing

Happening Today: Scott Turner, a former NFL player and public servant, will appear before the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee as part of his confirmation process for HUD Secretary.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Central Time.

Who is Scott Turner?

The Backstory: Turner is a professional mentor, pastor, and former Texas state representative. He grew up in the Dallas area, attending Pearce High School in Richardson.

After playing football at the University of Illinois, Turner spent several seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos.

During NFL offseasons, he interned for then-Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif. After retiring from football in 2004, Turner worked full-time for Hunter. In 2006, he unsuccessfully ran as a Republican candidate in California’s 50th Congressional District.

In 2013, Turner was elected to represent the newly created 33rd District in the Texas House. He served two terms, representing parts of Collin County and all of Rockwall County, before stepping down in 2017.

In 2019, President Trump appointed Turner as the director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. Following Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, Turner was nominated to serve as HUD Secretary.

Turner is also listed as an associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
