Experts investigating the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre graves are set to perform coring work in the Canes area of west Tulsa this week. This investigation, which has been ongoing for some time, aims to locate and identify the victims of the tragic event that left a lasting impact on the local community. The Canes area has emerged as one of the key locations of interest, providing hope that more remains of the victims may be uncovered.

Since the search for mass graves began, Canes has been identified as a potential site where the remains of those who lost their lives in the massacre might be found. Field experts have been meticulously conducting various tests and examinations in this area to gather evidence and further the investigation. The use of coring techniques allows investigators to extract samples from beneath the surface without conducting a full excavation, offering a less invasive but effective way to assess the presence of potential remains.

The findings from this coring work will play a crucial role in determining whether full-scale excavations are needed in the Canes area. These results could provide invaluable information for the investigation, as experts look to gain more insight into the tragic events of 1921 and the final resting place of its victims. Should the evidence suggest a high probability of remains, excavation efforts will likely be recommended.

According to KTUL, this phase of the investigation is expected to be completed by Wednesday, providing a significant step forward in the effort to uncover the truth and bring closure to the families affected by the massacre. As the investigation progresses, there remains hope that the ongoing work will help recover more victims and shed light on one of the darkest moments in American history. Source: KTUL
