Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) announced on Thursday his candidacy for co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). If elected, the 27-year-old would become the first Generation Z congressional leader from either major party.
In a letter shared with Axios, Frost emphasized his recent experiences and his commitment to shaping the Democratic Party’s future.
“I’ve traveled the nation over the past several months, primarily connecting with young and working-class Americans,” Frost wrote. “I’ve heard clearly that there is a hunger for leaders who will forcefully stand for an economy and country that directly benefits them and their communities.”
During the campaign season, Frost worked to rally younger voters by promoting the Democratic ticket alongside Vice President Harris, hosting events and tours on college campuses.
“As your co-chair, I plan to bring one of the founding principles of my office to the entire caucus – the idea that to be effective communicators we must try to bridge the divide between cool and consciousness and cede no form of communication to our Republican counterparts,” Frost noted.
“That we should seek to not use culture, but be a part of it and mold it ourselves.”
Frost proposed innovative strategies to strengthen Democratic messaging, including forming a digital creator partnership, enhancing event presentations, and offering workshops on branding and style for lawmakers.
