Major League Baseball has removed references to “diversity” from its MLB Careers home page in response to an executive order issued by U.S. President Donald Trump. The order could result in federal action against organizations implementing DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs that conflict with his administration’s interpretation of civil rights law.

“Our values on diversity remain unchanged,” MLB stated on Friday. “We are in the process of reviewing our programs to determine if any modifications to eligibility criteria are necessary to ensure compliance with federal law while continuing forward.”

The website Cup of Coffee News was the first to report on the removal.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, who introduced the Diversity Pipeline Program in 2016, addressed the matter after an owners’ meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, last month. He emphasized that the league is closely monitoring legal interpretations coming from the federal government.

“Our values, particularly regarding diversity, remain unchanged, but another key value for us is ensuring compliance with the law,” Manfred said. “There appears to be a shift happening, and we are carefully following it. Once things become clearer, we will review each of our programs to ensure that, while our values remain the same, we are also aligned with legal requirements.”
