The Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board, tasked with investigating unresolved civil rights cases from 1940 to 1979, recently released new findings. These cases, classified as racially motivated crimes and civil rights violations, were either never fully resolved or only partially investigated by authorities.
On a recent episode of WABE’s Closer Look, board members Hank Klibanoff and Gabrielle Dudley discussed the board’s work and its mission. The board, which was appointed by President Joe Biden, revealed details about the cases of Leroy Bradwell, Hattie DeBardelaben, and Rev. Samuel Earl Sawyer, Sr.
Hank Klibanoff, a seasoned journalist and co-chair of the board, along with Gabrielle Dudley, a board member, joined host Rose Scott to delve into the history of these newly released cases and share insights into their efforts. Klibanoff, also the host of WABE’s Buried Truths podcast, provided valuable context on the importance of continuing the work of uncovering these historical injustices.
