Kenya Ponder Williams officially assumed the role of Gadsden County’s Supervisor of Elections, marking a significant moment in the county’s leadership.
Williams succeeds Shirley Knight, a trailblazer who made history as the first African American elected to office in Gadsden County and served as Supervisor of Elections for over four decades.
Speaking to ABC 27, Williams reflected on the honor of following in Knight’s footsteps and the legacy she is tasked with upholding. “I learned a lot from her on how to handle the position and how to handle the voters. Just to be handed over the torch from her is just awesome because I’m stepping right over into the same office, serving the same voters and the role has just elevated,” she shared.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Supervisor of Elections office in Downtown Quincy, where the passing of the torch symbolized a seamless transition in leadership.
