CHICAGO (WLS) — The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus is set to convene its most significant policy summit in Chicago this week. The event comes amid growing concerns over the future of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and the Department of Education as challenges loom with the potential return of a Trump administration.

The summit will draw over 1,000 participants, including elected officials, clergy members, and other community leaders, who aim to develop actionable strategies through public policy. Discussions will focus on addressing pressing issues impacting marginalized communities and safeguarding DEI initiatives in education and beyond.

Tiffany Hightower, the executive director of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, highlighted the summit’s importance during an interview with ABC7. She emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to create sustainable solutions that promote equity and justice across Illinois. Source: ABC 7
