On a national scale, there were 15,813,955 veterans in 2023, of which 1,997,837, or approximately 12.64%, were Black. A 2023 Pew Research Center report projects that the percentage of Black veterans across the United States will increase over the next 25 years, indicating a growing presence of Black individuals within the veteran community.
While New Jersey’s ranking highlights its substantial Black veteran population, Southern states like Georgia and Maryland continue to lead in overall representation, reflecting regional demographics and military service trends. The findings emphasize the importance of recognizing and supporting Black veterans who contribute significantly to their communities and the nation. Image Source: mosaic
