On September 6, 2023, the Senate confirmed Gwynne Wilcox for a second term on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), which will extend until August 27, 2028. Wilcox had previously served as a Board Member from August 4, 2021, to August 27, 2023. President Biden designated her as Chair on December 17, 2024.
Wilcox holds the distinction of being the first Black woman to serve on the NLRB since its establishment in 1935 and the first to be appointed as its Chair. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Honorable Bernice B. Donald Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Legal Profession Award from the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section in November 2021. This award is presented to individuals, law firms, corporations, organizations, or academic institutions “that have demonstrated leadership in and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession.”
Before her appointment to the Board, Wilcox was a senior partner at Levy Ratner, P.C., a labor and employment law firm based in New York City. She also served as Associate General Counsel for 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and acted as a labor representative for the NYC Office of Collective Bargaining. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Field Attorney for Region 2 of the NLRB in Manhattan. Wilcox earned her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark. She is also a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
