Support for President-elect Donald Trump among Black voters in Wisconsin rose significantly in the latest election, with exit polls showing Trump capturing approximately 21% of the Black vote in the state, compared to the 8% he garnered in 2020. This shift represents a substantial increase in Black voter support for Trump in Wisconsin, according to polling data from NBC News. In contrast, Kamala Harris held 77% of the Black vote in the state, showing that while the Democratic base among Black voters remains strong, there has been a notable rightward shift since the previous election.

Alvin Tillery, co-founder of the 2040 Strategy Group and founder of the Alliance for Black Equality, noted that the trend among Black voters in some swing states was not unexpected. “The exit polls showing that Black turnout was softer than normal and Black voters in some of the swing states turned to the right should surprise no one,” Tillery told Newsweek. He highlighted that credible Democratic pollsters had been raising concerns about Black voter support shifting for months, particularly among men.

According to NBC exit poll data, Harris struggled more to secure strong support from Black men in particular, a demographic that showed a decreased level of commitment to the Democratic ticket in this election. The drop in support for Harris from Black voters in Wisconsin aligns with broader national trends of slight shifts within this demographic. Source: NewsWeek
