Two suburban police officers in Riverdale, Illinois, are facing a federal lawsuit accusing them of using excessive force. Abraham Carmichael, the plaintiff, claims the incident left him requiring several surgeries due to injuries, including a fractured nose. According to Carmichael, on February 5, police officers approached him while he was working on his car in an alley. The officers were reportedly searching for someone else but allegedly involved Carmichael without cause, escalating the situation.
Attorneys for Carmichael have shared dashcam footage of the event, which shows Carmichael being pushed towards a squad car, where the alleged violence occurred. “When the cops showed up, they were looking for a specific person in a specific car. They found that and confirmed it within seconds. For no reason, they dragged Mr. Carmichael into this,” said Evan Finneke, one of Carmichael’s attorneys.
