Black voters shifted toward the GOP in the 2024 exit polls, particularly in North Carolina, where Trump saw an increase in support among Black voters. The exit poll data reveals a notable change in voter preferences from previous elections, with Black voters now favoring Harris by 87% compared to Trump’s 12%. However, Trump’s share of Black voters in the state increased by 5 percentage points compared to the 2020 exit poll, reflecting a growing trend of support among this demographic for the Republican candidate.

Black voters shift to GOP in 2024 exit polls, with a 5% change in North Carolina, marking a significant shift in the political landscape. This trend can be observed in the comparison of past exit polls, as Trump’s support among Black voters in North Carolina rose from 7% in 2020 to 12% in 2024. While Harris still holds a dominant lead in this group, the 5% increase in support for Trump could signal a shift in Black voter sentiment in other key battleground states as well.

Similarly, Hispanic voters also contributed to the changing dynamics in North Carolina, where they made up 7% of the electorate, up from 5% in the 2020 exit poll. The voting patterns of Hispanic men and women remained relatively consistent, with both groups showing slight shifts in their political preferences, but these changes were not as pronounced as those seen among Black voters. As a whole, the increased Hispanic voter turnout in North Carolina could indicate a potential shift in Latino voting patterns as well. This evolving voter behavior among Black and Hispanic communities suggests a possible reshaping of traditional party alignments in future elections. Source: Reuters
