DURHAM, NC – The Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People (DCABP) has unveiled its newly elected and re-elected leaders who will spearhead the organization’s efforts over the next two years. The elections took place during a general body meeting on Thursday, December 5. The new leadership team will officially assume their roles at the annual meeting in January, which will be open to the public.
Former North Carolina Senator Floyd McKissick, Jr., son of the late civil rights pioneer Floyd B. McKissick, has been named chairman of the organization. Key appointments also include Shea Ramirez, moving from second vice chair to first vice chair, and former county commissioner Nimasheena Burns, who will serve as second vice chair. Thelma Glenn-White retains her position as third vice chair, and Dr. Tara Fikes continues as executive secretary.

“Our meeting last Thursday night showcased the strengths of the Durham Committee as demonstrated by the large number of members (standing room only) who came out in unusually cold weather to attend the meeting and vote,” said outgoing DCABP Chairman Walter A. Jackson. “We got the job done, and we are well-positioned to continue to build on the work of our great organization.”
